Salary Increase According to PayScale data from February of 2021, economics master’s degree-holders earn an average salary of $90,000 per year, while individuals with an economics bachelor’s degree earn an average annual salary of $70,990. The graduate program was created jointly by MIT’s Department of Economics and the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), a research center at MIT led by professors Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo, and Benjamin Olken. Banerjee and Duflo are co-recipients of the 2019 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics. Most Masters in Economics courses last one or two years full-time, depending on the institution and country.

The Master’s in Data, Economics, and Development Policy is the first Master’s program to be offered by MIT’s Department of Economics. It is also the first program at MIT to exist exclusively in a blended (online/residential) form.
